TCBA Lawyer Referral & Information Service

How Our Lawyer Referral Service Works - (last updated July 1, 2025)

When you use our Lawyer Referral Service, you’ll first answer a few questions to help us understand your legal needs. If we have an attorney available who can assist you, you’ll be prompted to pay a $20 fee online before receiving a referral.

Once your payment is complete, your information will be sent to our Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) team, who will review your information and make the best possible match with an attorney. You will then receive the attorney’s contact information and be entitled up to a 30-minute consultation with that attorney.

During this meeting, you and the attorney can discuss your potential legal matter and the attorney’s rates and fees if you both choose to move forward. There is no obligation to hire the attorney after your consultation, and the attorney is not required to take your case. Any information you share during the consultation is protected by attorney-client privilege and cannot be disclosed without your consent.

If you and the attorney agree to continue working together, any legal fees and costs will be consistent with the attorney’s standard rates. If you need more time than the initial 30-minute consultation, the attorney may charge an additional fee at their regular hourly rate.

If the attorney’s office does not speak with you within one week, you may contact LRIS for another referral. We will confirm with the attorney’s office that they did not meet with you before issuing a new referral.

If you speak with the attorney but decide you'd like to be referred to someone else, you will need to submit a new request and pay a new $20 fee for another referral.

If we do not have an attorney available who can assist you, you will not be prompted to pay, and no referral will be charged.

We do not have any pro bono or reduced-rate attorneys.
